TED: "How movies teach manhood"
A TED talk that I think is worth watching, moving from childrens films (the Wizard of Oz, Star Wars) through gender politics and the Bechdel test, and ultimately questioning what a modern definition of manhood should be.
(Note- he later posted an apology for being too hard on Princess Leia, with some interesting points on the difference between how Leia is portrayed in the films (the senator, politician, rebel leader who isn't afraid to grab a blaster and take charge of a situation), compared with how she appears through the eyes of the hero (the Princess, a beautiful damsel in distress to be rescued.)
